Natural Dye Workshop

About this experience

NATURAL DYE WORKSHOP

Cost: $60

Date:

Saturday, June 28 (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Description:  Before synthetic dyes weren't invented in the mid-1800s, we used flower petals, leaves, heartwood, seeds and even lichen off of tree bark to create vibrant colors!  In this hands on class, you’ll learn how to incorporate natural dyes - which pose little to no threat to the environment - into your fiber hobby.  We’ll learn about the history of natural dye, which botanicals make the best dyes, and the pros and cons of both natural and synthetic dyes.  Then we'll go hands-on and learn about prepping your fiber to get the best result.  We’ll touch on fiber types and how to prepare them, then discuss how to make a dye pot at home. There will be several dye pots and yarns for you to experiment and create with alongside your classmates.

Materials (included in class fee):  Five 20g skeins will be provided per person

Skill level:  16+ only

Please bring a apron or wear something you don’t mind getting stained.
